The petrochemical industry covers a diverse range of processes that are characterised by highly stringent safety requirements. Sensors must have a form of protection, such as a thermowell, to operate correctly in such environments and RTD sensors can be immersion or surface mounted configurations depending on the conditions.
Oil and gas industries deal with hydrocarbons which require explosion proof (Ex d) or il-intrinsically safe (Ex i) sensor assemblies. Dependable and repeatable level, flow, pressure and temperature measurement are crucial to safe, accurate and continuous process control.
A combination of different classes of thermocouples, RTD sensors supplied with thermowells, as well as infrared temperature sensors and infrared thermal imaging are widely used in monitoring these processes.

Increase Efficiency With Pyrosales
The temperature range in cracking and sulphur recovery furnaces can vary from cryogenic temperatures–well below zero–to temperatures above 800°C. These temperatures require a wide range of materials and sensor solutions. RTD sensors provide a more accurate reading and can be used repeatedly in applications below 600°C.
Standard thermowell assemblies, special tube skin thermocouples, and high-temperature ceramic sheathed thermocouples can be considered for high and wide ranging temperature monitoring.
